A Swim at Lobster Falls

Our venture out into the Tassie wilderness in the Summer heat today saw us exploring Lobster Falls. Lobster Falls are located on the outskirts of Mole Creek. We pulled our car up to the side of the road around midday, threw some sun screen and a hat on my and started our decent down to the falls. The hot sun was beaming through the tree tops highlighting the greenery capped by the cloudless, vibrant blue sky.

The walk down to the falls was fairly easy however concentration was needed when placing you feet amongst the tree roots and dry dirt floor. In some spots the bank had eroded and with significant rainfall this walk could become quite dangerous with some of the bank falling away. Care was taken when heading down to the falls. Along the way there was some interesting rock formations showing contrast polarity with the green soft background of the trees polarised against the jagged grey, stark, rocks.

With the sounds of laughter and the whisper of water running down stream we got our first glance of Lobster Falls from 60m above ground level.

As we reached the base of the falls we could see a fair few people in the water swimming around. I took my shoes and socks off and stepped into the refreshing, cool water to cross over to the middle to take some photos. I then decided to take my top off and go for a swim myself. It was a gorgeous place to swim. The first dive under water took my breath away but I quickly adjusted and headed to the falls. The water in the falls was so much warmer. It was so nice floating and swimming around taking in the view of the Tassie landscape.

After taking a well earned dip in the water and cooling off we sat on a rock soaking up the sun and watching others enjoy themselves. We spent a fair amount of time in this beautiful location and then eventually put the socks and boots back on and clambered back up the steep bank. The walk back was a lot harder than the walk there as the majority of it was uphill. We passed a spider in the middle of it’s web.

A Sunday well spent wandering and swimming through the Tasmanian landscape. We will head back with the kids and check out the 2nd waterfall slightly down the hill one day soon.
