Tassie Wanderer in the Snow (Central Plateau, Lake Mackenzie & Devils Gullet)

‘The beauty of Winter captures my soul, wild and raging and belovingly cold’ (Conny Cernik).

Explored the Centeal Plateau behind Great Western Tiers along the Blue Peaks Track, Lake Mackenzie and Devils Gullet in thick snow today. Went exploring by myself, but was entertained by the amount of fun had by families surrounding me at Devils Gullet. Loved hearing the giggle of children as they tried to throw snowballs at their parents. There was so much joy surrounding me. Amazing what the simplicity of snow can do to your soul. I have really come to enjoy my own company, getting pleasure out of the simple things in life.

First walk was on the Blue Peaks Track bushwalking in the crunchy, white snow. I went a little off track a few times and had to retrace my steps, when exploring Central Plateau, as there were only orange markers to guide me as the thick snow covered the track. I may have stepped in the snow to my knee level in some points and thought I should probably head back before I step into a frozen lake, especially as I was isolated with no one around.

Next stop was Lake Mackenzie. It didn’t have a lot of water in it, but still gave off a reflection of the snow capped surroundings.

Back down the icy road to finish my exploring with a quick 45 minute return walk to Devil’s Gullet. The scenery was amazing. Love going to places I have never been to before. I came across so many happy families enjoying the simple things in life. Reaching the viewing platform, I came across a lovely couple trying to get a photo so I offered to take a photo of them. Such an amazing backdrop for their photo.

Moving to the end of the platform I felt like a bird looking down on the white contrasting landscape. Was a good amount of distance between me and the landscape. I carefully made my way around the cliff face taking photos of the gorgeous view. This was possibly the best part of my trip.

Upon leaving this extraordinary place, I came across some people having some fun with snowballs on the side of the road. A guy scooped up a massive snowball and signalled for me to come closer. As I approached him, he threw the massive snowball onto my windscreen and let out a massive tummy rumble laugh. Finished off my adventure just nicely. Tasmania in the snow brings out the child in all of us!!
