Morgan Skyline Highlite Walk
My partner and I decided to head to a little place called Nook to go on the Morgan Skyline Highlite Route walk. Following AllTrails app we arrived about ten metres past the destination point and began our walk up the hydro tower track. Following along the navigation line, we soon realised it was not the right track but up towards the top of the tower we found a little way into the forest and ended up on the correct track.
This walk was really well marked and one thing we noticed was there was not one piece of litter or human damage along this track. It didn’t take too long to come to a point on the track where you could see a view.
Along the track we found an echidna trying to bury itself under a rock when it heard us coming. I love seeing our native wildlife in their natural habitat.
The track along the top of the walk was very rocky. Lots of climbing up and down over rocks. But it was worth it when you are surrounded with views like this:
As you can see the walk has lots of rocks that you walk through, up and down. I unfortunately was coming down a rock and my foot that hit the ground slipped and my tail bone came down and crashed into a rock and I heard my sacrum crack. This was not good as I was in a heap of pain and felt light headed. I had a rest and got some water and fruit into me and the dizziness dissipated. I had not reached half way when I hurt myself. These are the risks you take I suppose when you go walking. Anyway I continued on and just around the corner found the ladder.
I sent my partner down first to make sure it was sturdy and then I slowly went down gripping on for dear life.
Further along the track we spotted a black tiger snake slither under a giant rock. After getting past the rock we had made it close to half way. On the way down, the hillside was extremely steep, so I was making sure I didn’t slip again. We finally made it down to the lower part of the track where we headed back towards our starting point.
Along this part of the track I was walking and talking to my partner when out of the corner of my eye I obviously disturbed another snake, two metres to my right. It started travelling in the direction I had just come from. I ran to my partner and turned around to see the snake travel across the track and down the hill at high speeds. It was a decent size tiger snake, about two metres long. It really spooked me and so for the final quarter of the walk my eyes were glued to the ground looking for more snakes and we made sure we made plenty of noise.
When we finally reached the end of the track I took a picture to show where we should have started which was a matter of ten metres from the car.
Morgan Skyline Highlite Route was a lovely scenic walk and I would definitely recommend it to others. Just keep your eyes out for snakes!
