An honour to make it to Honor Falls
It was an honour to finally find Honor Falls today. I have explored this area on Bluff Creek in the past and went on the wrong side of the river unable to make it safely and successfully down the bank to see the waterfall but able to see a couple cascades up stream. We decided to go for a drive today and see if we could find Honor Falls.
We started off on the track down the wrong side again as there was a clearly trodden path down the bank which was extremely wet and slippery. We got so far and ended up climbing the bank and getting further and further away from the falls. We did take a couple of pictures of the smaller cascades at the start of this track.
We headed back to the road and decided to go on the other side of the river bank which had a muddy fire trail up through the forest. This was the side of the river closest to Liffey Falls. I hadn’t considered going up here before as the first side had a clear path so I had always used that. The Waterfalls of Tasmania website has mentioned that this waterfall had no directional signage so I didn’t bother looking for markers. We could have entered the forest on a track early on that stemmed off the fire trail. We knew the round about location of the falls so we kept walking up the fire trail further and entered the forest a good 100m up the road. Walking through the wet slippery forest I spotted some pink tape.
I was so happy when I discovered some directional signage which took us down a steep slippery bank. We cautiously worked our way down the embankment using the trees as anchors to support the way. We finally reached our destination at the base of Honor Falls. The water was pumping out of the waterfall with some force.
Upon reflecting on this walk, I am happy that someone has taken the time to mark out a track with pink tape to try and limit humans making their own tracks down to the falls. The amount of tracks in and around Bluff Creek could be avoided if it was communicated that this track is now clearly marked out. Hopefully people will read this and know which side of the creek to go to and where to find the tape to stop the damage happening to the vegetation in this area. It also will hopefully avoid any serious damage to people taking a wrong turn and sliding down the steep bank.
As I said in the title of this blog, it was an honour to finally find the amazing Honor Falls. I am looking forward to doing more waterfall walks this year.
