Today was a perfect Winters day to go for a walk, with fresh air in the lungs, and views to explore. I invited my friend along to check out Kimberley’s Lookout which is part of Badgers Range. I found this location when filtering through the AllTrails app and thought it would be a great walk to do on a clear day.
Upon reaching the car park, I soon realised the focus and hard work ‘Kentish Walk’, a not for profit organisation, have put in. They have created a wilderness exercising location, up-keeping the walking tracks to multiple lookouts, cleaning signs and advertising. This was also the starting point to the ‘Wild Mersey Mountain Bike Trails.’
At the bottom of the Kimberley’s Lookout sign was a box containing maps which was very helpful. We grabbed a map and started the ascent. The track was in pretty good condition, with lots of signage pointing the way. The first lookout we reached was Kimberley’s lookout, with our first look at the view above the tree tops.
After taking in the gorgeous view looking back towards Nook and seeing the Sheffield golf course we continued on briefly to Charley’s Lookout. This was my favourite lookout to take in the view of Mount Roland overlooking the township of Sheffield. The country landscape was full of colour with rich flora shining through, dotted with houses and man made structures.
Whilst freezing standing out on a rock to take photos, Leah somehow flicked her sunglasses and they went over the edge so off she went on a hunt to find her sunglasses. After climbing some boulders and searching the trees she managed to find them.
We somehow missed the turnoff of the circuit and backtracked before revisiting the map and going back again. We eventually realised that there was a track off to the right at Kimberley’s Lookout. This is where our decent started. Heading down the track we had two more lookouts to view. Our next lookout came out onto a rock perch with the magnificent Roland sitting behind on the horizon.
Along the track an abundance of fungi could be seen colouring the ground intriguing us to take a closer look.
The final lookout that we visited on our decent was about halfway down the hill and was called Maraea’s Lookout. One last opportunity to take some photos of the Tasmanian country landscape.
Not far from reaching the carpark, I did hit a slippery section of the track and fell down. But I jumped back up and picked up my phone and sunglasses and continued on to the carpark.
I had a lovely day out covering 5.3kms chatting to Leah the whole way and admiring the views. Now that I know about this location I would like to come back with my daughters and explore some of the other lookouts.
Kentish Walks is a not for profit group, that developed and maintain all the track on the badgers. we do not receive financial support from the council and they do not promote these tracks. All the signs, track markers and brochures are supplied by us , except for the big sign at the start of the Kimberley's lookout track and it was us that cleaned that sign so you can read it.
ReplyDeleteWell a big thank you for all of your efforts. I certainly appreciate your hard work. I have updated my blog to reflect this information. Kind Regards.
